April 27, 2018, Kuala Lumpur – Before one knows ‘How-to Design’ it with conviction, one must first know “How-to Spend” it in style – this was the thread running through an extravagant day of indulgence enjoyed by DesignStream during our annual Town Hall this year.
It was a day of many firsts – and first class experiences – although the itinerary was a surprise to all team members except its organisers who had planned the day’s events with the help of luxury travel agency, Luphoric. Having been briefed earlier to bring their passports to work, the first indication of things to come was the private pickup from the DesignStream office to Subang Airport by a fleet of Toyota Vellfires.
No commercial airlines today, instead three private jets, a Bombardier Challenger CL300, a Gulfstream G4 and G150 awaited on the tarmac ready to whisk our VIPs to Singapore’s Seletar Airport. On arrival, Vellfires transported the team in style to COMO Dempsey, a lifestyle enclave in the upmarket Tanglin Village, where they spent the afternoon exploring Dover Street Market, a sprawling multi-label boutique of curated pieces from coveted brands the likes of Comme des Garçons, Celine, Balenciaga, Sacai and The Row.
After being inspired by this fashion gallery of textures, prints and architectural elements, lunch was served in the adjacent building at The Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar, designed by renowned Italian architect, Paola Navone. The private, light-filled room featuring sleek monochromatic interiors was the perfect setting to tuck into the refined cuisine of Michelin-starred chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, one of New York’s most celebrated chefs.
The private room also provided a discreet venue to conduct our Town Hall, which opened with DesignStream principal designer, Benson Saw’s address. As the afternoon slipped into evening, the designers boarded their private jets back to Kuala Lumpur, it was a day to remember, filled with experiences that will no doubt imbue future designs.
